Two weeks after a burglary crew smashed its way into a Brookfield liquor store, attempting to steal the ATM inside, burglars struck twice during the early morning hours of March 13 at gas stations across the street from one another at 31st Street and Maple Avenue.

According to Brookfield police, the two break-ins took place between 4:15 and 4:20 a.m. at the Shell station at 3101 Maple Ave. and the Clark station at 3045 Maple Ave. Both were closed for business and no employees were inside at the time.

Surveillance video gathered from cameras at the intersection showed a light-colored SUV pulling up to each business and a crew of what appears to be four men wearing masks smashing out the glass doors before entering the businesses.

The crew was unable to remove the ATM, which reportedly was bolted to the floor, from the Shell station. However, offenders stole cigarettes and liquor from the minimart there.

The ATM was removed from the Clark station, according to police. It's not known how much money was inside the machine.

There was a delay in notifying police of the break-ins, because the initial alert went to the business' alarm companies, who contacted the owners before contacting police.
